Steam‑distilled from the tall grass Cymbopogon nardus, citronella opens sharp‑green, citrus‑bright, and lightly woody. Long valued as a natural shield against insects, it also lends a fresh lift to diffusers and outdoor blends—a crisp top note with a brisk, cleansing edge (always well‑diluted).

Often used in summer sprays and outdoor oils, citronella helps keep bugs at bay and freshens skin or scalp blends when used in low dilutions. Its lemony sharpness is also a brightener in room and mood blends.

How to use

Diffuser: 2–5 drops per 200 mL water (or as directed by the device).

Oil burner: Always dilute—fill the dish with water first, then add 1–3 drops of the essential oil.

Room spray: 6–12 drops in 100 ml distilled water + 1 tsp solubiliser; shake before each use.

Topical (in carrier oil): Body leave‑on: up to 1–2% (3–6 drops per 10 ml carrier). Avoid the face and sensitive areas.

Outdoor blends: combine with cedarwood, lavender, or geranium for added protection.

Lovely with: lemongrass, cedarwood, geranium, lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree.
